Hamburg’s new “designxport” design centre opens on 4 July 2014 in the Elbarkaden, part of the HafenCity development project.
Designxport, which will act as an ambassador for Hamburg as a design metropolis, was initiated by committed representatives of the local design industry with the aim of creating a permanent public space for contemporary design and a meeting place for designers in Hamburg.
With the opening of designxport, Hamburg’s newest design centre will take over all the tasks of hamburgunddesign°, as well as initiating other activities to breathe life into the Hamburg design metropolis. Hamburg is home to nearly 14,000 designers working as freelancers, in design studios, in international agency networks or in companies. designxport is supported by the Cultural Department of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
At a late night conference during the opening event on 4 July, eminent designers will give talks on the changing significance of design within society.
Heinrich Paravicini will be one of the speakers at the opening event, documenting the history and success story of MUTABOR.
MUTABOR will also have its own exhibition at designxport in August.
